Do I have to know how to make robots to be on the team or the project?
No. It is better if you don’t.
Do I have to know how to make software to be in the project?
No. I will pay experts to do that. You can learn about it and ask questions though.
Can I be on the robotics team without being on the research project?
No.
When will we meet?
The team will meet on days the church is available. And when coaches and parents decide.
What kind of robotics competition is it?
We will be doing FIRST robotics. It is worldwide. www.firstinspires.org.
When does the season start?
Every season starts in September. That is when they release the challenge.
How many people are on the team?
15 can go to competition. We can have more members if we do internal competitions.
Are there scrimmages like sports?
There can be. The earliest scrimmage would be in December.
When are the competitions?
The first competition is probably in January. It is called a qualifier. There are multiple qualifiers. The national championship is in April.
Where are the competitions?
We compete in North Carolina. Some meets may be in or near Raleigh. The church helps arrange team transportation. The state competition has been at NC A&T for the past few years. After winning at state level, there are a few levels before the national championship. Nationals has been in Dallas the past few years.
Will I get kicked off the robotics team if we do not win?
No. You will probably only get kicked off the robotics team if there is a team kickoff vote. But the team makes the list of rules together. So, you can give your ideas about what makes a good team member and what could get a team member voted off.
